A special Nepali cultural program marking Sonam Lhosar, the traditional New Year of the Tamang community, is set to take place in Paphos highlighting Nepali music, culture, and community unity in the diaspora.
The event, organized by Lama Apart, will be held on Sunday, January 18, and is expected to attract Nepalis living across different cities in Cyprus.
The main attraction of the program will be a live performance by renowned Nepali singer Raju Lama, the founding member and lead vocalist of the iconic band Mongolian Heart. Known for his distinctive voice and fusion of modern and ethnic Nepali music, Lama is regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary Nepali music.
With popular songs such as “Halla Chalechaa,” “parkhaai ma,” and “sayad timro bato ma,” Raju Lama has built a strong fan base not only in Nepal but also among Nepali communities worldwide. His upcoming performance in Cyprus is being seen as a rare cultural highlight for the Nepali diaspora on the island.

In addition to Raju Lama’s performance, the program will feature several locally active Nepali artists in Cyprus. Dance performances will be presented by Muna Tamang and Jiyasana Tamang, while vocal performances will include local singer Monika Bishwakarma and Mingmar Sherpa. The event will also showcase traditional culture through a Syabru dance performed by the Rasuwa-based group, along with other local artistic presentations.

According to the organizers, the entry fee is set at 25 euros, and bus transportation will be arranged from various cities across Cyprus to facilitate wider community participation.
The event aims to promote and preserve Nepali culture, language, and identity among the diaspora, while strengthening social and cultural bonds within the Nepali community in Cyprus. Organizers believe such programs play a crucial role in keeping traditions alive, especially for younger generations growing up abroad.
